Sample Content: Mid-Day Commentary
The Live Feed offers three “touch points” of commentary throughout the the trading day — pre-open, mid-day, and final stretch.
The following is an actual example of mid-day commentary, taken from the Live Feed archives.
05/05 Mid-Day
12:42 pm – May 5, 2011
Equities have fought their way back to breakeven on the day.
Some interesting areas of note:
- Broken momentum stocks are catching a bid. Names like RIMM, DECK, OPEN and YOKU are bouncing – all names that have been hit hard in the past few days. This looks like a natural “dead cat bounce” and could lead to some short opportunities in the next few sessions.
- Airline stocks are sharply higher after US Airways and Delta reported rising traffic for April. Falling oil prices doesn’t hurt this area either. Expect thesis notes on this group before the end of the week.
- Commodities continue to slide. Gold is down 2%, silver down another 7%, crude off more than 6%, and copper down 3%. We rang the register on both JJC and HL and still have exposure in play for both of these positions.
The closing action will be important today, considering the opening gap lower and rebound. Traders will be actively placing their bets ahead of the April employment report which will be released tomorrow morning.
